I'm not proud of what I did.

Bucky was a friend, closer to you than he was to me, but he was a friend. I know what the both of you have gone through.

But I told you I'd protect you. I told you that if the need arose, I'd save you.

The man I killed back in April wasn't Bucky. It was the Winter Soldier. I knew him before everything, back in Russia. The look in his eyes was the same then as it was in April. I'm hoping that if and when he comes back that he has newer memories like we do. Maybe we can settle things.

I'm not asking for your forgiveness, and you know I'm not one to apologize. But I did it to protect you.
